Yoga Therapy Rx​

Yoga Therapy Rx combines ancient Eastern and modern Western healing modalities for alleviating stress and dis-ease in the physical and emotional body.  It helps ailments from chronic pain to anxiety.  A Yoga Therapist's application varies: Cathy utilizes the Yogic principles of holistic wellness to create personalized programs for clients to manage well-being.

Yoga literally means 'to yolk' as in, to tie or bring together, sometimes defined as 'union'.  As a Yoga Therapist, Cathy Kay looks at the whole being to assess imbalances and corrections of the 5 Koshas (Pancha-Kosas).  These are the sheaths or layers of the Self that interdepend on one another for health and well-being:

 

When most people think of yoga, they think of the postures (i.e. downward facing dog). However the postures, called asana in sanskrit, are not yoga itself but only one of the 8 Limbs of Yoga.  To live life as a yogi one must practice in all 8 areas which are:

  • YAMA - Restraints, moral disciplines or moral vows

  • NIYAMA - Positive duties or observances

  • ASANA - Posture

  • PRANAYAMA - Breathing techniques

  • PRATYAHARA - Sense withdrawal

  • DHARANA - Focused concentration

  • DHYANA - Meditative absorption 

  • SAMADHI - Bliss or enlightenment
     

Yoga Therapy is a method by which one develops and heals their body, mind and soul consciousness to its highest potential by using proven science and wisdom passed down from sages through the ages.
